PART THREE
Klyron relived that cursed moment over and over in his head.
He was powerless to stop the inflow of awful data that ran through his mind. The shock paralyzed him every single time. The comfort of his orb home did not ease the agony of his soul. The tranquility of the orb home village did not quell the turmoil inside his heart. The weight of loss threatened his senses to jump over the roofâs railings and meet the concrete beneath.
âLet it end!â cried out Klyron at the vast open blue while his knees struggled to stand, âAt least Iâll be with themâ¦â
The idea of killing this torturous sorrow gained more and more appeal by the minute. All he had to do was bend over the steel pipes over the rail wall and jerk himself forward. A few seconds of fall, then a quick and sweet sleep. The thoughtâs intensity grew and he proceeded to attempt it.
Exactly then a piercing buzzing sound came in from the east where the morningâs sun was still rising. A black dot was there against the background of a sunâs soft shimmering red. The dot grew in size as did itâs sound until it played a loud roar and took the shape of a biâverbal.
Klyron pulled himself back, stood straight, and observed the oncoming flying vehicle. It was a small passenger carrier, its outer shell made of transparent black metal enabling its riders to view the outside, but no one from the outside could peer at its interior. The biâverbal stopped right beside the roof and latched its hooks onto several ports. The door slid down and fixed itself down from the biâverbal to the rooftop.
A slender and short girl with elfin features and red hair walked through the pathway holding a VD reader in her hand, jumped and landed on the roof.
Klyron sighed heavily, then gazed back to the green horizon. âWhat the hell do you want?â
The girl said in a quivering voice, âIâ I was watching you in the magnifier, your highness. Yâ you were going to jumpââ
âSilence! I donât want to hear anything from you, Rosaline!â
Rose bit her lips as a wave of disgust towards herself shook her body. âI should be the one to jump, your highness.â Her voice trembled. âIt was my blunder. Itâs all my fault!â
She could not stop the wave of emotions any longer. Her vision went blank as tears filled her eyes. Sobs came out from the depth of her abdomen and she stood there, shaking. Then she felt a hand seizing her shoulder, squeezing to convey warmth.
Klyronâs voice was plain and dead as he said, âItâs not your fault, Rose. Youâre not a god. There was no way you couldâve known.â After a few moments of pause, he continued, âItâs not my fault either. It was the fault of our luck! But the pain! It hurts so damn much!â
They remained there, letting the silence of nature engulf them whole.
After a long while, Rose said in a low
